The 1973 Constitution stated that the advancement of science shall have priority in national development and that the “State shall promote scientific research and invention.” In order to implement this constitutional mandate, Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1003-A, s. 1976, created the National Academy of Science and Technology.
Executive Order (EO) No. 818, s. 1982, mandated NAST to act as the advisory body of the President of the Philippines and to the Cabinet in matters concerning science and technology in the Philippines. Furthermore, the EO empowered the Academy to engage in projects or programs designed to recognize outstanding achievements in science to promote scientific productivity.

To recognize outstanding achievements in Science and Technology as well as provide meaningful incentives to those engage in Scientific and Technological Researches

To advise the President and the Cabinet on matters related to Science and Technology. To engage in projects and programs designed to recognize outstanding achievements in science and to promote scientific productivity
Republic Act 9107
To manage, operate and maintain the Philippine Science Heritage Center, the country’s main repository of the contributions, achievements, and accomplishments of Filipino scientists in the field of science and technology. PSHC was inaugurated on December 14, 1998 and had its grand launching as a full-scale Science Center in 2001.

Scientific Career System (SCS) is a system of recruitment, career progression, and recognition that awards scientists rank to qualified research personnel in the government service as a means of developing a pool of highly qualified and productive scientific personnel.
Who are the
NAST PHL Members?
The Academy and its individual members, through their own work, serve as much-needed role models. The Academicians have been tempted and lured, but have resisted and remained in the Philippines to help our country. All of them pursued careers in science as the centerpiece of their lives.
